The Giverny Museum of Impressionisms
Giverny · Paris, France
Once you've finished at Monet's house and gardens, it's time for a stroll around the village of Giverny. Leave Monet's house and walk straight along the road to the left to see the village.
After about three minutes you'll reach the Impressionism museum, the first stop. It opened in 1992 as the Musée d'Art Américain Giverny and steadily showed works by American Impressionists. When the Terra Foundation, which founded and supported it, pulled out, local authorities worked to build up the collection, and in 2009 it was renamed the Museum of Impressionism, Giverny, and reopened on a larger scale. Today it presents works by Impressionist artists from France and around the world, mostly in temporary exhibitions.
That said, it's no exaggeration to say that the garden and café are even more beautiful than the galleries. In May, when poppies dominate, the museum garden looks like a painting. In 2006, on the recommendation of the French parliament, the garden was designated a "Jardin remarquable" by the Ministry of Culture and Communication. You can have a meal here, or, outside mealtimes, make a nice memory over a cup of tea.
