Hôtel Baudy: The Inn Where Painters Stayed
Giverny · Paris, France
Keep walking after the Impressionism museum and you'll come to the Hôtel Baudy. It's easy to walk right past, so follow the photo guide to find it. Better known online today as Restaurant Baudy, it was an inn for the American painters who settled in Giverny. As artists flocked to the village and lodging ran short, Madame Baudy, who ran a shop and bar, turned the bar into an inn in 1887 and added a studio.
Most guests were American painters, but Monet, Cézanne, Rodin and Renoir were also frequent visitors. A restaurant still operates there today, looking much as it did in the old days. Go out through the back door and you'll find a small garden and an atmospheric studio. Have a quick look and soak up the mood.
