Sainte-Chapelle sits in the heart of the Île de la Cité in Paris's 1st arrondissement, at 10 Boulevard du Palais. Unlike a typical museum, it has no grand entrance on the main road. You reach it through the courtyard of the Palais de Justice, the city's law courts, so first-time visitors can easily get a little lost. Once you've cleared security, just follow the signs.

The closest metro stop is Cité on Line 4. You can also get off at Châtelet, where Lines 1, 7, 11 and 14 meet, and walk about 10 minutes along the Seine. Driving isn't recommended: private cars are almost entirely shut out of the Île de la Cité, and the nearest public car park is more than a 10-minute walk away. Public transport or walking is the easier choice.

Opening hours change with the seasons. From April to September the chapel is open 9am to 7pm; from October to March, 9am to 5pm. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. It is closed on just three days a year: January 1, May 1 and December 25.

Admission prices changed in January 2026. Visitors who don't live in Europe pay the standard rate: €22 for a regular ticket, or €30 for a combined ticket with the Conciergerie, the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before she went to the guillotine, just a one-minute walk away.

If you're planning several sights over a few days, consider the Paris Museum Pass. A 2-day pass costs about €85 and a 4-day pass about €100 (prices may change). It covers unlimited entry to more than 50 sites, including the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, the Palace of Versailles, the Conciergerie and Sainte-Chapelle. Note that even with a pass, you must reserve an entry time slot, booked in 30-minute increments.

Reservations are made on the official website of the Centre des monuments nationaux. The English-language pages are clear, so booking from home is easy. Reserve a slot as soon as your travel dates are set. Arrive on time: show up too early and you'll queue again, and arrive too late and you may be refused entry.
