Pont Alexandre III: Paris's Most Beautiful Bridge
Paris · Paris, France
Keep walking along the Seine from the Bateaux Mouches pier and you'll pass the Pont des Invalides before reaching the Pont Alexandre III, often called the most beautiful bridge in Paris. Its lavish Art Nouveau ornamentation earned it that title, and it turns up in nearly every film set in the city.
The author's favorite on-screen moment is the ending of Midnight in Paris, where a line about how beautiful Paris is in the rain really struck a chord. Plenty of travelers grumble when it rains on a trip, but a rainy day reveals a new side of a destination, so traveling in the rain is something the author enjoys. This bridge, in particular, often seems even lovelier in the rain.
At each of the bridge's four corners stands a gilded statue. Each represents science, art, industry, or commerce. Take one more look at the Eiffel Tower lit up at night from the bridge, then move on to the next stop.
