The Giverny Museum of Impressionisms
Giverny · Paris, France
This museum with a modern façade first opened in 1992 as the American Giverny Museum, because it mainly showed work by American artists influenced by Claude Monet. As its collection broadened, the scope expanded to Impressionist artists from around the world, and today it is called the Giverny Museum of Impressionisms.
It is open from April 1 to November 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and puts on special exhibitions related to Impressionism. When our guide visited, a Japonisme show displayed ukiyo-e alongside works by Impressionists they influenced, and another exhibition on Post-Impressionist pointillists such as Seurat and Signac offered plenty of dotted canvases to admire. Admission is charged separately, but the French themselves come for these shows, so it's worth a visit if you're interested in art.
The souvenirs here are also good quality, and the gift shop can be browsed without a ticket, so it's worth a look if you enjoy shopping for keepsakes.
Our next stop, the Baudy Hotel, is easy to walk past, so check your map as you go.
