Hôtel Baudy: The Painters' Gathering Place
Giverny · Paris, France
Did you find the Baudy Hotel? From the outside it looks unremarkable, so you may wonder what this place is. To the right of the door, look for a square plaque with the numbers 1887 and 1914. It reads, in effect, that from 1887 to 1914 this was the meeting place of Claude Monet's painter friends, and that not only Monet but Cézanne, Renoir, Rodin, Sisley, Mary Cassatt and many American Impressionists stayed here. It is quite the boast.
In other words, this was the hotel where the many artists who came to Giverny to see Monet stayed. It's a place where you can feel the footsteps of countless painters.
