Over 6,000 Pieces: The Ancient Artifacts Rodin Collected in His Lifetime
Musée Rodin · Paris, France
This glass case holds ancient artifacts Rodin collected during his lifetime. Ancient art left a deep imprint on Rodin throughout his life, dating all the way back to his youth, when he spent hours at the Louvre copying Greek and Roman masterpieces. Once he had the financial means, he began collecting a wide range of artifacts from around the world.
What's on display here may look modest, but Rodin's collection is said to have exceeded 6,000 pieces in total, of which only a portion is shown. You'll find artifacts ranging from ancient Greece to Rome, Egypt, and Mesopotamia.
