Two Women Running on the Beach was completed in 1922. Picasso painted it when his wife Olga had given birth to their son Paulo and the marriage was going well. The two women running joyfully across the sand give a sense of what he was feeling. Picasso found happiness within his family and spent a peaceful time with his wife and son. As we noted, though, the marriage would later end badly.

Take a look at two other works from the same period. Around this time he painted many pictures with family as the subject, especially mothers and sons. As you look, try to imagine what Picasso was feeling in his marriage then.
