Do You Love Musicals? French Musicals

The sound just before a show begins, when anticipation swells, is one I love. My parents took me to the theatre often when I was little, so I naturally came to appreciate the magic of live performance. By high school, just watching wasn't enough, and I even felt a little jealous of the people backstage, so I ended up working in the industry.

In France, musicals aren't a particularly beloved genre. In a 2023 French survey, concerts were by far the most popular type of live entertainment that year, followed by plays, one-man shows, circus, musicals, dance and opera, in that order.

Before we move on to Act 2, a question: what French musicals come to mind? Perhaps Notre-Dame de Paris, Les Misérables, Roméo et Juliette or Les Dix Commandements. Let's take a trip through Paris with the two most famous of them.
