Café des Deux Moulins and the Traces of Amélie
Paris · Paris, France
Now follow Rue Lepic all the way down. Along the way you'll pass No. 54, a house with a blue door where Van Gogh once lived. He stayed in Paris for a short time, then moved on, and eventually settled in Auvers-sur-Oise, on the outskirts of Paris, where he spent the last of his life.
A little further down from Van Gogh's house, the café where Amélie worked in the film Amélie still stands, just as it appears on screen. It's the Café des Deux Moulins. Even the restroom matches the movie, so if you know the film, it's worth stopping for a coffee. Most of the film is set in Montmartre, so fans can hunt down locations around the neighborhood, such as the fruit stand and the spot where the phone booth stood. Many of these places are still there.
The film tells the story of Amélie, a heroine who tries to bring happiness to others. Many people say it leaves you feeling happy, and it is often recommended as a movie to watch before visiting Paris. It came out a long time ago, but it's still a charming film today.
Paris is full of film locations. If a movie you love is set in Paris, look up its locations before you go and visit them on your trip. It will make your visit even richer.
