Montmartre Cemetery: The Easiest to Reach
Paris · Paris, France
Last, let's explore Montmartre Cemetery, the easiest of the three to reach. Montmartre is a neighborhood nearly every visitor to Paris goes to, and because the cemetery sits very close to its main sights, it is simple to find. It is the third-largest cemetery in Paris after Père-Lachaise and Montparnasse, and it opened on New Year's Day in 1825.
If you come after seeing the other two, it feels much smaller, more like a stroll through a little garden, and you can wander it at a light pace. Get off at Place de Clichy on the metro and walk about five minutes. While you are visiting Sacré-Cœur or Place du Tertre, don't just walk past it. A few of the famous people who rest here are introduced next.
