Soutine's Still Life with Pheasant

Chaïm Soutine's Still Life with Pheasant brings back the white and red he returned to again and again. A pheasant lies on a white cloth, flanked by red peppers and chilies. Soutine went so far as to split the bird open and render its internal organs in graphic detail — an unsettling, almost brutal image, but one through which he worked through the trauma of his childhood.
