This is André Derain's Kitchen Table, showing everyday items you'd find in any home — a frying pan, a wooden spatula, plates, a baguette, bowls, bottles. They might look casually scattered at first glance, but Derain arranged them with real care so each piece stands out. Setting them against a dark background makes them more visible, and he gave the composition its own quiet order: elongated objects like the bread and spoon run horizontally, while round ones like the bowls and pots cluster together.

The painting is believed to have been made at Derain's villa in the south of France, likely based on the actual kitchen where he lived. There's nothing decorative about the scene, but it reveals just how closely and thoughtfully Derain observed the objects in front of him. Without any dramatic subject or notable figures, it shows how even an ordinary kitchen corner can become a striking painting.
