We're heading to La Maison Rose, the house where Montmartre's legendary muse, Suzanne Valadon, lived. "Maison" means house and "rose" means rose, so the name translates as "House of Roses." Our guide names Suzanne Valadon as the most important person in Montmartre, because she inspired so many artists. Degas, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Erik Satie, Modigliani and more all courted her. She was a model, and everyone wanted to paint her.

Born out of wedlock, Suzanne drifted from job to job until a painter happened to notice her and she began modeling in Montmartre. Posing for many painters, she learned to paint by watching over their shoulders, and in the end she became a painter with a style of her own. Let's hear her story in front of La Maison Rose.
