The Antechamber

This room links the garden to the palace interior, with a wide window on its far wall opening onto a sweeping view of the grounds. On either side of the door stand two busts, placed there by Marie Antoinette herself: on the left, her husband Louis XVI, and on the right, her brother Joseph II, who traveled from her native Austria to visit her. The two men who mattered most to her, in effect, keep watch over this room.
