Renoir, Tulips in a Vase
Musée de l'Orangerie · Paris, France
Renoir also produced a number of still lifes depicting flowers and fruit. He reportedly said that, unlike painting people, painting still life freed him from tension and allowed him to experiment more boldly — and here, vivid color and lively brushwork bear that out. The Orangerie holds three of his flower paintings in total, so if they happen to be displayed together, comparing them side by side makes for a rewarding visit.
