If you're holding a Paris Museum Pass and planning to join a guided tour inside the Louvre, there's a change worth knowing about before you land in Paris.
What Changed: Guided Tours Now Need Their Own Ticket
The Louvre now requires anyone joining a guide-led group tour to enter on a separate tour-only ticket, sold by the tour operator itself. A Paris Museum Pass, a general admission ticket, or any ticket you booked yourself no longer qualifies for that specific product — even though it still gets you into the museum.
In practice, that means if you book a guided tour through a local operator, you're paying for museum admission twice: once through your pass or ticket, and again through the tour operator's ticket.
What Your Museum Pass Still Covers
This change is specifically about group tours led by a human guide — nothing else. If you enter the Louvre on your own, at the time slot your pass or ticket is booked for, and explore independently (including listening to an audio guide, rented or on your phone), none of that is affected. Your Museum Pass works exactly as it always has for individual entry.
Why the Louvre Made This Change
The Louvre has been managing serious overcrowding for years, and large guided groups clustering in bottleneck rooms — most famously in front of the Mona Lisa — are a big part of that. Requiring tour operators to sell dedicated tickets gives the museum a way to cap and track how many guided groups are moving through at once, separate from general admission.

- Buy the tour-only ticket. Book directly through a licensed tour operator if you specifically want a live guide leading a small group.
- Hire a private guide. More expensive, but flexible on timing and topics.
- Use a self-guided audio tour. Enter with the pass or ticket you already have, and listen to expert narration on your own phone, at your own pace, with no group to keep up with.
